The Cave

"The Cave" is a story about survival in the days of the Neanderthal.

In this chapter a tribe of Neanderthal get attacked, and all the fires are extinguished. In those days they could not start their own fires. So the tribe sent out three warriors on a quest for fire.

As the men were searching for the fire they come across a cave where they decide to take shelter. As One of the three men Gow, was taking his turn as watchguard, he spots a mysterious figure off in the distance. As the figure becomes more and more clear, He realises it is the great Grey Bear; said to be the strongest animal in the land. It has been told that a grey bear can bring down a horse with its paws. At this point I felt scared for the three men as I knew the bear was most likely coming for them. Gow wakes up Naoh and Nam; the other two of the three warriors, warning them of the approaching threat. They continue to stay in the cave unsure if the bear was headed in their direction or not. They built a stone wall over the opening of the cave in anticipation of the bears arrival. They waited. The bear approached the cave and found that the entrance to it's cave had been covered over, so it went around the side and stuck its snout through a small opening, for it only to be clubbed by the awaiting warriors. Enraged, the bear threw itself at the makeshift wall. I felt fear for the mean as they knew the bear would soon break through. Eventually the bear knocked down the wall and the mean were cornered. But Naoh hid in the shadows waiting for the beast to approached and when it got close enough he struck the bear on the top of it's head, creating a loud crack. Knowing the bear was weakened he continued to club the bear until he knew it was surely dead. The other two men looked at him in awe, for he had defeated the fabled Grey Bear. I felt a bit of disgust in the way that the bear was killed, but I understood Naohs actions as it was for the sake of survival.

  1. I'll comment on the log later, Dylan but I just had to congratulate you for being the first guy to get the homework in. Good habit to get in to.

  2. Well done, Dylan. Some good detail here and you do respond reasonably well. However, you need to add more explanation. Why did you feel this way?

Sitting at Achieved level at the moment.

Go and have a look at Callum's Cave entry and my comment to see how to go about gaining Merit.
